The Sockets and the Veil.

[March 3, 2019]
_______

The veil is stated to have been ripped *from top to bottom*. This is a peculiar genre of description.

There could be two ways the veil could plummet down: one is to simply fall by gravity under its own weight and second, to have been ripped as it was in our gospel description....

The veil removed is the signature of Christ death via typological application of old testament picture profile. But our enquiry is the manner in which the veil was gone - either fallen or rent?

Let's suppose for a brief moment, that the veil had fallen instead of being ripped from top to bottom. What would this mean to be?

It would mean that the sockets of gold (Exodus 26:32) had weakened and had compromised over the degree of hold upon the veil.

The sockets of gold depicted the deity of Christ. The veil was gone - *but it was not because the golden sockets had failed*. In other words, Christ died but this does not mean His deity had been compromised.

Let's get back to the second point: the veil ripped from top to bottom. Here, the golden sockets had remained in the intact position of originality. The sockets did not check out on the measure of grip over the veil. In other words, Christ died on the cross, but His deity and the glory of His Person remained intact - so much that the centurion cried and acknowledged His deity, 'this was the Son of God'.
