Christ the True Kinsman Redeemer.

The book of Ruth opens with no king in Israel; it ends with the bringing in of David, the man after God’s own heart, who was God’s anointed; it points on to ‘great David’s greater Son’, the Lord’s anointed, The King of kings. Ruth 4:4-64. And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it. 5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. 6And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.

Ruth 4:4 (Near Kinsman) says I will redeem. Again v’6, he says I cannot redeem it....lest I “mar” mine own inheritance. Here the kinsman was afraid to redeem both Naomi and Ruth that after redeeming them, he doesn’t want the “bitterness” in their life to fall upon him. So also Law which came by Moses (John 1:17) cannot make any one righteous by the sacrifices or by moral life, which are the shadows of good things to come (Heb 10;1) and for it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins (Heb 10:4). Also, by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in HIS sight (Rom 3:20).

Boaz (type of LORD JESUS CHRIST) he simply purchased Ruth. Here Boaz paid the money but without pain. But our LORD JESUS CHRIST “marred” his face like no other man (Isa 52:14). They spit on his face and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands (Matt 26:67). ....they spit upon him....smote him on the head Matt 27:30. ....they had mocked him Matt 27:31. By the death on the cross (Luke 23:46) we are redeemed and obtained forgiveness of sins (Eph 1:7 & Col 1:14). He is not ashamed to “mar” himself as kinsman who refused to. May GOD help us to understand what “mar” (depth of bitterness) more than any man and his form more than the sons of men which our Saviour endured.
